Just picked up this beast over the weekend off of craigslist. I’ve been an Ibanez/fender scale/superstrat fanboy for a long time but damn, this thing has me seriously reconsidering all those allegiances. It plays perfect, no complaints whatsoever right out of the case.

Kinja'd!!!

I think it might have been one of those rare cases where the seller wasn’t exactly sure what they had, because it was downright cheap (for one of these) borderline “this is probably a scam” territory.

I’ve always wanted a LTD EC-1000 Series in see thru black cherry. Think it’d be worth it?

LTDs are good guitars. I’d say go for it.

The Eclipse is the only non-Gibson/Epiphone Les Paul type I like. I love how sharp the cutout is. Very nice find.

What else do you have in your inventory?

My memory is a little fuzzy, but the last EC-1000 I played (probably 10 years ago now) didn’t really impress me much over my Epiphone LP Custom, now at the time I was working as a guitar tech so my Epi was dialed in absolutely perfect and had much better than factory pickups which may have biased me a bit.

I can say that if the current LTDs are close to this thing, go for it. This is the nicest playing guitar I’ve experienced. I will say this, don’t buy over the internet, guitars all have a different personality and need to be experienced in person. There are vast differences even within the same model.

That’s why it is weird to me, I’ve never really liked LPs or Gibson scale guitars, but this one is just “different”

As for the collection, I’m a bit of an addict

Kinja'd!!!

Built the 2x4 bass, the P-bass, and the Mopar orange Tele myself :)

Have you tried any of the MIJ copies? Some fantastic guitars there.

I almost picked up another yesterday. Took one last long drive before taking the insurance off for the winter and decided to check out a guitar store about 100 miles away. There was a Guitar center a bit further down the road so I went there after. They had a Rickenbacker on clearance for 2200. I’ve bought a Les Paul from Sam Ash and an ES Les Paul from Guitar Center. Both were 2014 models I purchased in late 2015 and early 2016, respectively, on clearance, and both stores came down on the price that what was hanging on the neck. This Guitar Center in the middle-of-nowhere bumpkin town would not come down on the price of a guitar that had been sitting on their wall for some of 2014, all of 2015, and 3/4 of 2016. And it looked like it wasn’t wiped clean in all that time. Maybe there is less markup to work with on Rickenbackers, but it will probably be sitting there another several months at least. It’s ok, I really don’t need another. But if I could have gotten a deal I probably would have taken it.

The 2x4 bass reminds me of the wangcaster. Lol

Yeah, I’ve never really seen markdowns on Ricks. I’ve been looking for a good deal on a 4003 for a looong time but never see them much below msrp. Buying stuff for years from companies with artificially high MSRPs has made me a bit cheap I suppose.

I think Gibson and Fender MSRPs are pretty inflated. I got my ES Les Paul for about half the MSRP after tax. I’m glad it was too good of a “deal” to pass cause I love that thing. I’m not sure I would say Rickenbackers are overpriced though. They’re a niche company that has never moved production outside the US and thus still produces low volumes. Last I checked it was about a 2 year wait if you ordered one.

I’d like to think I wouldn’t hold it in comparison against my other guitars that I’ve had for years. I’ve always liked the look of them and they just seem to me I could get some great sounds out of it. Of course, this would be after hours of playing and getting to know it.

Of the guitars of bought and sold over the last 20 years, only a couple have been online simply for the reason that they were not that common and were not at a store that could transfer them. I’m with you, I like to have some time with one before I decide if it’s the one for me.

Yes, I don’t usually either, but in this case since it was between two pretty similar guitars, I couldn’t help but draw the obvious comparison. I am sure with a few hours of playtime (and a few hours of setup time! pretty sure he was still using out of box factory setup) it would have left a better impression.
